Here's a question for anyone who really knows well about quantization-errors and dithering:

As Yoad explained, dithering masks the errors, that are caused by changes you make to digital audio, by introducing noise, which it can do because of its random nature.
Now, here's a thought I've been having for some time:

I'm really into the sort of analogue-modeled plug-ins and so on, for different reasons, of which one is that they've also modeled the noise and such things from the original equipment into the plug-in (as Yoad explained). I really like to use it as well, as I'm convinced that if you "shake up" audio enough with noise and such, like adding a grain-filter to a digitally recorded video or photo, it will reduce the sterile nature, and of course mask any errors, of digital processing. To my ear it smoothens the sound as opposed to keeping it completely clean and harsh. Subtly of course…

However, here's the thing; As you render audio to a file again, wouldn't it yet again introduce quantization-errors? If so, would it completely "negate" (I guess) the noise that the plug-ins added, or would it be more like "half-and-half"? Like, the original audio that is being mixed down has little to no quantization-errors, and the rendered file does have it because of being rendered without dithering.
I'm guessing it still helps if rendering it down into a singular audio-source introduces any additional quantization-errors, but I'm wondering what really happens in the process.

I hope anyone gets what I'm saying. haha
So basically; Just because the audio on the tracks might be processed with plug-ins that have noise modeled into them, doesn't necessarily mean that they're safe from quantization-errors when mixing it all down together with a DAW its basic rendering-functionality (which aren't modeled after any analogue gear). I know that the "dithering"-feature is optional, but should it be?…
I've always just used a good amount of analogue-modeled plug-ins, using their noise and harmonic distortion and such, and rarely use dithering during rendering, and it sounds fine to me. But I'd really like to know what really happens at that point.?

+Yoad Nevo This video is GENIUS, lol, great Video… 26 years of experience. One question though, do you use stereo widening on your masters??

blank

The mix is just beautiful! even before mastering…  then Mastering just gave it that real Breath of life.
Amazing!

@ToleXElijah?

I don't have the beautiful HEQ, but I must have it now!  That is an amazing device!?

That 'remix'? DIRE!  (Nothing against Yoad, he can only go with what he's given…not a lot in the remix case)?

How did you get Logic to look like that with the fancy transport controls etc??

GREAT VIDEO!!  Question:  Why would we want to get "a little bit of clipping on the A to D" ??   Isn't clipping in digital audio bad?  Why would we want to clip anything?   He says in the video that he did that because he wanted to "get an extra .5 db of level" at 2:50.  But then the first plugin he uses specifically to lower the overall gain to get more headroom… which, correct me if i'm wrong, defeats the purpose of having the extra .5 db of level to begin with… right?  What am I missing?  Is it just that he wanted to get the most sound possible from the neve console badly enough that he was willing to sacrifice the possibility of clipping to get that maximum Neve tone?  Anybody have any insight here?  thanks in advance.  I love this video.?
